Day 1 of Trek

Today we leave for the trek and the glorious sun has sadly left us with its sadder and wetter cousin. yes, it's raining and for the past 2 days there have been storms on khangri but they should pass. Clouds are making it rather hard to see anything but once we start it will be fun either way. Today we jeep to chilling where we set up camp and 2morrow we cross the shopping trolley above the Zanscar river ( this refers to a small cage like cable car) George (me) is today and tomorrows leader followed by chris, dewing , bournie and stanley! so this is our last post for two weeks until we get back to leh. have fun without us! Stay Classy Bloggers!!! (mum get me anchor man 4 when we get back!!) xxxxxxxx

Day 6 - Leh

today we went out on our first trip above 5000m. We all jumped in jeeps and were driven up the mountain to the highest (or second highest) drivable mountain pass in the world. at 5200m we were very happy that no one felt ill or got a headache. this shows that our preperation has gone well. we are all in good spirits and looking forward to the project where we have a chance to thank the ladakis for their hospitality. We will post tomorrow. regards george and will

day 4 - Leh

02:00 start in the humidity of Delhi. Amazingly the taxi drive back to the airport was ... smooth...er than before although we had to avoid sleeping cows slumped across the road. most of the drivers appeared to have passed out all over the pavements, bus stops and on their carts so the roads were almost empty. Due to the earliness of our arival in delhi airport and the fact that we were traveling internally we avoided most of the hassle that we had experienced on the way out. So we take off in an old boeing 737 and are enjoying the rapidly changing views (where we quickly reach for our cameras) when suddenly the plane starts it's descent into what looked like a valley. we spireled downwards towards the rocky valley floor, avoiding the mountains, all of a sudden, the town of Leh emerged infront of us. The landing was a bumpy one but we were greated warmly by the hot whether and remarkably less humidity than in delhi. Dawa, our in country agent met us at the airport and took us on the 10 min drive up to the oriental guest house which is a luxury. The realisation has hit us all that we are finally in the place that we have been planning for the last 2 years. Our suroundings are stunning and make the alps feel like dartmoor! From our window we can see stok khangri and this has raised team morale, however tamsin is annoyed because she wants to go for a run which was declined by the experienced Rob as acclimatisation is essential. This afternoon has been for adjusting and relaxing to the altitude and distinctly different culture and people of Delhi. We will hopefully trek up to the Shanti Stupour tonight as long as no one is suffereng from the altitude as headaches are common. As of yet, no one has suffered from the infamous Delhi Belly but only time will tell! Until tomorrow, This is Will and George signing out. Pictures to follow

day 3. (day 1 in delhi)

we left school promptly, an hour late and set off for the airport. Shock Horror!!!Mr berry turns the bus around to retrieve his forgotten pasport! the journey was passed with many games of travel scrabble and so-du-ko. the airport check in passed without a glitch and we boarded onto the plane at about 21.00. Christ slept almost the whole journey from school to Delhi! Day 3 - Arival in Dheli! Culture Shock!!!!! From the very moment we exited the airport we were all struck by the vibrance and vitallity of indian life. we could not walk anywhere without people yelling and hawking there wares . being brought up on the metropolitan streetes of england really prepared us for this. Any of you who have been to italy or the middle east and have experienced firsthand the "driving", our taxi drive to the hotel was much more... Agile. We went to the "HOTEL" which turned out to be... Interesting (see pictures) Our meal out was very nice in a small indian restaurant and nobody is feeling any ill effects yet (touch wood). We have all just taken our first Diamox pill so are already starting out journey upwards. We are up at 02.15 tomorrow morning to fly to leh where we will begin out real aclimatisation. Will blog on in leh possibly tomorrow. George and Chris, Signing out.

Day 1 - TBGS

Build up day came and went like the passing of a new moon. Rendez vous-14:00. The team gathered in our humble abode (TBGS 6th form) where we were met with open arms by our glorious God, The Wyne bar!(Rob Wymer) Group morale was lifted by his inspirational words as he led us through the worst case scenario book (Mr. Berry's diary). Late afternoon - the day drags on in the weary heat, our hearts stay strong. We are driven by the excitement of what lies ahead, the farewell BBQ. Kit check came and went like the passing of a new moon( yes, yes i realise i have used that imagery before, give us a break we're not in school(ironic, because we are)). Late night - The night draws ever closer, travel scrabble is in the forefront of everybodys mind. Scurvy is knawing at the door post, vitamin C sources are running low until tamsin judos her way to the shop. Our eric journey continues at dawn. We are off now for some trolley fun. We bought a trolley from Lidl for just £1... Bargain! George, Hannah and Will Ideas for the days ahead ar...(missing text) Quote of the day: "get jiggy with it!!!!!!!! not left the country yet but george is already giving me a headache = [" (josh) Majorette rule 1: Keep it casual! ... Majorette rule 3: It's not real irony if you have to explain it.
